Blossom: Because someone cared.
Our planned program for children ages 3 to 17: food, clothes, shoes, a fresh haircut and school supplies, and caring adults who believe in them.
Our programs
Help for children and families, coming back
All of our programs are paused until we can restart them, and two new programs, Blossom and STEM & Robotics, are being planned. Your gift is how this work comes back.
The official registration and financial information of Wendell Walker Foundation, Inc. may be obtained from the Mississippi Secretary of State's office by calling 1-888-236-6167. Registration by the Secretary of State does not imply endorsement by the Secretary of State.
Where things stand: every program below (food boxes, career help, tutoring and elder aid) is paused until donated funds and items can be gathered, collected and sorted. We miss this work, and we are working to bring it back.
Help is for everyone. Our faith moves us to serve, and every child and family is welcome, whatever their religion, race or background. No one has to share our faith or take part in any religious activity to receive help.
STEM & Robotics
We want to bring STEM and robotics programs to local youth: building, coding and problem solving that open doors to new futures. Programs like these give kids positive alternatives and help keep them on a good path.
What we're looking for: free and donated programs and curricula, volunteers who can teach or mentor, and equipment such as laptops and robotics kits.
Food boxes
Working with Pilgrim Rest Church, the foundation gave out food boxes to families. At its height the program reached more than 150 boxes a week.
Where things stand: the food box program is paused because the funds ran out. We want to start it again as soon as we have the support to do it well.
Resume & career help
We helped people write resumes and look for work. About 14 people got career help in the past year.
Where things stand: career help is paused for now. We want to restart it, and your gift helps bring it back.
Tutoring
Tutoring has been part of our work from the beginning. Our earliest programs included after-school tutoring and reading help.
Where things stand: tutoring is paused until we can restart it. Volunteers and gifts help bring it back.
Elder aid
Aid for elders has been part of our care for families of every age in our two counties.
Where things stand: elder aid is paused until we can restart it. Your gift helps bring it back.
And more
Families' needs don't always fit a program. While our programs are paused, you are still welcome to call us at (601) 265-0998.
Where we began
When the foundation began in 1998, its early programs included youth leadership development, an after-school program with tutoring and reading help, youth volunteerism and youth focus groups. These are past programs, part of our heritage.
Help us bring this work back.
Your gift helps restart food boxes, career help, tutoring and elder aid, launch Blossom for children, and bring STEM and robotics to local youth.
